by Mercy Nikenya

Can you remember a day in your schooling period, when leadership was thrown to you? Imagine of being a prefect in a noisy lower class where you spend the better part of your time, shouting to students to keep quiet, some seem not to hear what you are shouting as they're still making noise. Did you learn on good leadership qualities that you might use to handle them perfectly?

Again, at one time or the other you've selected a leader, be it in the church, college or those guilds at your work place. We consider to achieve good leadership qualities and also we use them in electing an individual to occupy a leading position which will benefit all. We don't just dream to crown any person to be a leader. Good leadership is vital to any organisation.

What are these qualities we do describe as good leadership qualities? Does it mean that we have leadership qualities that are general? Think of a chief dealing with a criminal, thrashing is involved to rectify such an individual, you consider that as a cruel chief, but his work requires that he should do it! Can't it be called a general quality? Below are a few of the good qualities.

1.) A good leader should show love to followers. For one to gain successful leadership there is need for love. The leaders should love his/her followers and the followers should also like their leader. The followers that you lead will give a simplified mission as all are prepared to share with you concepts readily and also solve issues as united people.

2.) Leaders should act as role models. Imagine of a church leader firm on the use of alcohol but who is found drunk by Christians. This leader won't act as inspiration to church members as they will doubt which one is actually which (to drink alcohol or not to drink it) and this destroys their christian hope. Leaders should try doubtless to lead as role models.

3.) One who leads should be dependable. A leader should be a dependable person, one who the subjects put their trust on; like in a position of cashier where money is handled in great amounts, people should have trust in you for them to leave their cash with you, not a leader whom they keep on doubting.

4.) Leaders act with equality. Serving a group, a leader needs to practice equality. A leader shouldn't consider some better, poor, fair and some best. Equality should be observed to all.

5.) Courageous: A leaders should be powerful and not be scared. He or she should have bravery to take on all issues without any fear. The leader ought to be leading from the front and not from the back.

6.) Humility should also not be locked out. A leader should show humility to his/her supporters. Leading a team is involved with lots of hindrances, all sorts of words will be asserted, but be humble to swallow them and give good direction.
