Youth Ministry For Young People Today

by Sally Bertram

Youth ministry has been a part of the church for as long as it has been around but the focus has not been as centralized as it may be today. This is because churches have become very aware of the need to teach the next generation, in order for the future generations to have the knowledge they need to continue passing it on.

Having the opportunity to attend and learn in a same-age group setting is useful for teens if they are trying to decide whether they want to take on the faith as a career. It is a chance to open their eyes to the religion, what they want for their future and how they want to live. Teaching them while they are young is a good investment into the future generations of the church.

Many pastors or ministers have worked hard for years to find the right person and the right approach to teaching their teenagers and young people. They want to give the knowledge to the young people in attendance and hopefully draw in some that are not currently attending. They want to provide a good foundation for living a positive and moral life.

All programs for young people should be led by a person who is intelligent, compassionate and strong-minded, a lover of the faith and of strong moral character. Whoever is chosen for this position should have a personality that teenagers can get along with, one that will not repel them or make them feel inferior.

Churches should always make sure their group leader is coming up with plans and events that are healthy and encouraging. Teenagers do not like being treated as if they were five. If they are showing an interest in the faith, they should be treated as intelligent human beings and taught what it is they want to know in a constructive way.

The youth ministry in any church must create goals for their teenagers, set a plan and have them stick to it. They should be entertained and taught with love and kindness.
